Volunteers are what makes Compost for Brooklyn work–and we have a great time while we’re at it! Come help us plan block parties, translate, weed, plant, turn and sift the compost, and host open hours.
Regular volunteer opportunities:
- Host open hours (when people drop off their food scraps at the C4B garden)
- Thursdays 5pm to 7pm
- Saturdays 10am to 12pm
- Sundays 2pm to 5pm
- Pick up scraps collected off at other locations and bike them back to the C4B garden, from:
- Cortelyou Greenmarket, Sunday afternoons
We also need volunteers to translate (we are in a very diverse neighborhood), help with events and workshops, and get their hands dirty in the garden!
Get started: First, check out our upcoming volunteer opportunities and events calendar
Then, send an e-mail to compostforbrooklyn@gmail.com, with “Volunteer” written in the subject line, to let us know which activities interest you and to learn more!
NEW PILOT PROJECT–WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! In partnership with GrowNYC, Sustainable Flatbush and Compost for Brooklyn will be collecting food scraps at the Cortelyou Road Greenmarket every Sunday from 11/13 to 12/18. (If you are interested in volunteering to help make this pilot project a success, contact us at compostforbrooklyn@gmail.com)
We look forward to working with you in the garden!
COMPOST FOR BROOKLYN IS A MEMBER OF TIMEBANKSNYC
All Compost for Brooklyn volunteers can bank time credits for each hour that they volunteer. To learn more, please click here. And when you sign up, don’t forget to list Compost for Brooklyn as your affiliation!
TimeBanking is a reciprocal service exchange network in which people provide help, support and services to one another by using time instead of money as the currency. All TimeBank programs value one hour of service given to another as one time credit. The objective for each member is to earn time credits by dedicating time to others, and to use time credits by receiving assistance for themselves.
