We were part of history!!!

On Saturday, April 30th, Compost For Brooklyn was present to collect compostables at one of the largest Million TreesNYC volunteer planting events ever!

Over 500 planting volunteers arrived from all parts of NYC to plant over 5,000 trees as part of a significant restoration effort at Brooklyn’s Marine Park.

We collected 4, 5-gallon buckets filled with mostly banana and orange peels, apple cores and unused napkins, and fielded questions from many a curious participant who had never before seen compost collection in action at a NYC public event!

As part of the spring Million TreesNYC Volunteer Planting Day across the boroughs, each of the sites that day had compost collection for the first time ever, and we were the only Brooklyn composting organization to be a part of that launch!

Now that’s groundbreaking!
